To get to the entrance of the Batu Caves steps you need to fight your way through monkeys and pigeons…
To get to the start of the 272 Batu Caves steps,? you need to pass an army of macaque monkeys looking for a quick snack from unsuspecting tourists.? These monkeys can make great subjects for photos (if you haven’t seen close-up monkeys before), but you can be quite certain that if you have food they will end up stealing from from you or even biting you.
Even if you can avoid the monkeys at the?Batu Caves steps you need to pass the “hundreds of tourists” feeding the thousands of pigeons so watch out for those pigeon droppings!
Note that monkey bites can be serious so immediately drop anything that they grab onto such as a backpack or water bottle, as the monkeys consider tug-of-war to be a challenge and may bite your hand before they let go!? When you see them baring their teeth, that means they are in an aggressive attack mode so stay away!
The Batu Caves is easily reached by KTM Komuter train using the Batu Caves-Port Klang Route, costing RM 2 for a one-way journey from KL Sentral.
By Bus 11/11d from Bangkok Bank Terminus (Near to Puduraya Terminus) or Bus U6 from Titiwangsa.
Getting to the Batu Caves steps by Taxi
From Bukit Bintang,? a metered budget taxi to Batu Caves will cost about RM 30 (one-way) ? there were no traffic jam en route to Batu Caves.? Insist on taking a metered taxi ? if you have to bargain with the taxi driver, try to settle on at most RM 35 ? applicable only for budget taxis ? executive taxis (the bigger MPV models will charge more as their metered fares are already more expensive than a budget taxi).
Also note that for your journey back to Kuala Lumpur city from Batu Caves, you will almost never be able to get a taxi that agrees to turn on its meter if you take one of the taxis at the Batu Caves car park.? You will be quoted prices upwards of RM50 but if you can bargain it down to RM35 (quite unlikely), then you should proceed with it.
