Batu Caves Kuala Lumpur

Batu Caves is a place where you should not miss on your next visit to Malaysia!

Batu Caves is an iconic and popular tourist attraction that is easy reachable by train from Kuala Lumpur (KL). It is also a site of a Hindu temple and shrine, a real temple the Batu Caves attracts thousands of worshippers especially during the annual Hindu festival, Thaipusam.

The caves are in a limestone outcrop located just north of Kuala Lumpur, Batu Caves has three main caves featuring temples and Hindu shrines and its main attraction is the large statue of the Hindu God at the entrance, besides a steep 272 climb up its steps to finally view the stunning skyline of the city centre.

Monkeys frolic around the caves, and it is a popular spot for rock climbing enthusiasts. Paintings and scenes of Hindu Gods can also be seen in the Ramayana Cave.

To get there catch the train from KL Sentral railway station. There is a direct train straight to the Batu Caves which takes around 45 mins arriving at Batu station.

The entrance to the caves is via a very very steep flight of over 270+ steps. At the base there are a number of idols and statues making the atmosphere very inviting and reflective.

Up the stairs, and monkeys greet you along the way, some of them are a pain in the neck but just keep moving and ignore them. There are a number of “rest stops” along the climb to the Caves to give you a chance to catch your breath and take in the beautiful views of downtown KL from the distance.

Once at the top and entering the caves their beauty is hard to describe. After a good look around which really only took 30 minutes or so, then comes the time for the climb back down the steps. Much easier than going up!

At the base of the steps, there again is a range of shops and food and drink outlets. Once finished there, simply head back to the railway and join a train back to downtown KL
Entry to the caves and its surrounds is free, the cost of the train was absolutely minimal-less than USD$10. By doing it yourself is more fun than going on an expensive tour!
